About Me

I'm a Utah mom, just trying to make ends meet. Several years ago, I was introduced to a new way of couponing. I've been addicted ever since. I have a hard time paying full price for anything anymore.

I love couponing so much, I decided to become a teacher for Grocery Smarts.

I teach free classes and show you how to get everything you need at the grocery store and still leave $$$ in your pocket. I'll also teach you the best ways to get and organize your coupons. The best part of the class is when I show you how to match your current coupons up with the current local sales - getting the most bang for your buck!

A favorite - Wal Mart Freebies

I've been visiting Wal Mart's website for about the last 2-3 years to pick up free samples. They work great for when you travel or just need something small for your purse/diaper bag or whatever. They always update with new samples. So just for fun, I'm posting the link for everyone to take a look and pick up some samples.

Smith's saves the day.....

So if any of you are following my blog, you'll know that my favorite place to shop is usually Albertson's. This week's ad for Smith's was great! So that's where I chose to shop this week.

As you can see I have:
  • 5 bottles of Softsoap
  • 2 bottles of Windex
  • 5 Speedstick
  • 6 Powerade
  • 2 Apple Juice
  • 2 boxes of Capri Sun
  • 2 Softscrub
  • and yes - you counted correctly....14 boxes of Gushers (my kids favorite treat)

Drum roll please........................................................................................................ I spent a total of $33.23 and saved $40.57. That is an average of $.87 for each item. I even got a register coupon (catalina) for $1.50 off my next order. I think this was a pretty good shopping trip. Hopefully Smith's will keep putting out good sales like this one. You still have until Tuesday (7/29/08) to pick up some of these great deals.

Children's Place Monster Sale

http://www.childrensplace.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Home?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&cm_ven=Search&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Google%20TCP%20-%20Trademark%20Terms%20-%20Alone&cm_ite=childrens%20place

As we face the inevitable - we on year round school are heading back on Monday (7/21). I checked out the Monster sale at the Children's place and found a bunch of really good deals. I was able to buy:

4 pair of shoes

3 pair of shorts

3 pair of pants (jeans)

5 shirts

all for $98.59 - including shipping. Use code FA78 to get an extra 15% off of the already clearanced prices. They also have a flat rate of $5.00 for shipping. It would cost me that much in gas, just to drive to the store. Happy Day - I didn't have to fight the crowds shopping. I hope you find some great deals as well! I've been watching the sale for a week or so now and they keep updating the clothes that are out there. I'm not sure how long the sale will last, but keep checking back for some great deals.

It sounds like not all stores are participating. You will want to check before you make the trip. Most of the SL, Layton and Riverdale stores are participating. The deals sound great. I would love to go, but don't have a babysitter and I'm not towing 3 kids to the store with me.

I think the sale goes through Monday. Good Luck - have fun for me and tell me about all the great deals you find!

Shopko Savings - toys on clearance

I just love (NOT) year round school. I did not really buy any new clothes for my daughter this summer and she will be going back to school on Monday, July 21st. Wow a three week summer vacation!!!

Anyway - I decided that I would pick up a few things on sale to send her back to school in. I wasn't really impressed with the prices on clothes (even though there were some cute things). I did pick up a couple of pairs of shorts and some swimming suits (one for daughter and one for my son). The suits were pretty good prices.

Then of course I can't take my kids shopping without having a trip through the toy dept. As I strolled the aisles, I noticed they had quite a few yellow tags sticking off the shelf. There were a lot of clearance items. I wasn't really shopping for toys - but if you are in need of some cheap toys, you ought to check out Shopko. I was in the Layton store, so I'm not sure if this was statewide or not. I ended up picking up 2 Tranformer Cyber Slammers
(regularly $11.99) for $2.99 a piece. I'll put those away for another occasion. Some of the items seemed like better bargains than others - just know that going in.

One more thing. I don't really like to open new credit card accounts at all the stores I shop at, but I guess Shopko is now doing the same thing as Albertson's and Smith's. When I went to check out, the cashier asked if I had a Shopko card (My extra savings card), I told her no and then she said I could get special prices and 10% off the week before/after my birthday. So I went ahead and signed up. THIS IS NOT A CREDIT CARD, just a discount card. Maybe all of you already knew this, but it was new for me tonight. I don't shop at Shopko very often. Maybe I will do more of it with this new card. Here's a link if you'd like more info

Cha-Ching!!! I felt like I went to Vegas today

I love Albertson's GM (General Mills) sales! My family is a big consumer of GM products, so when these sales come around we certainly stock up. The best part of this sale is that for every 10 GM items you bought, you could earn 2 free movie tickets. Wahoooo!!!! That means I earned 5 date nights with my hubby this go around.

Here's my breakdown on the items I bought.

12 boxes of Pop Secret popcorn (sale $1.49 each) I had 6 coupons for $.50 off of two. I paid $1.24 per box.

13 boxes of cereal (sale $1.99 each) I had a variety of coupons. I paid an average of about $1.29 per box.

2 Betty Crocker frosting (sale $1.49 each) I had 2 $.55 off coupons. I paid $.94 per can.

4 Betty Crocker Supreme brownies (sale $.199 each) I had 2 coupons for $.75 off of 2. I paid $1.62 per box.

12 fruit snacks (Stackers and Gushers) (sale $1.99 each) I had several coupons and paid an average of $1.69 per box.

4 Betty Crocker cookie mixes (sale $1.99) I had no coupons for these

3 Betty Crocker muffin mixes (sale $1.99) again - no coupons

If you add up the total of what I spent on all of the above items it comes to $81.22. Because I earned 10 movie tickets the average price for a ticket is about $7.00 (this may be conservative). If you take 10 x $7.00 you get $70.00, therefore my total for all these GM items came to a grand total of $11.22 I think this was a pretty good deal!

Not part of GM sale - but also a good deal.

Suave anti-perspirant (sale 3/$4.98). I had 3 coupons for $.75 off of each. I didn't realize they would come bundled in a two pack. So I really got 6 for $.46 each

The Duracell batteries 16 count (sale $8.99) I had a $.75 coupon and paid $8.24

Banquet Brown 'n Serve sausage (not pictured) (sale $.88 each) limit 4, paid $.88 each for 4 boxes

4, 20 oz 7-up bottles (not pictured) (sale $1.39 each) I had 2 coupons B1G1 Free

Lastly - I also got a register coupon for $3.50 off my next shopping trip.

After seeing the price of gas jump as much as it did yesterday and today, I think it makes it even more important to make one trip to the store instead of several a week for the little things you forgot. Hopefully you'll plan your shopping trip wisely to save as much as you can and get all the things you need for the week.

Come see me at the Kaysville Albertsons on 7/12/08

I will be at the Kaysville Albertson's on July 12th assisting with a demo on Grocery Smarts from 9:00 am to about 11:00 am. I would love to see you there. It will give you a chance to see what Grocery Smarts can really do for you. Again, it's a free website that will help you with your couponing. It's a great way to save some money. Especially when I saw a gallon of gas go from $4.03 to $4.15 TODAY!!!!

See ya tomorrow!

A Happy Food Storage Trip

I went shopping at Winegar's again on their second triple coupon day (Saturday the 5th). In my opinion it was well worth the trip. It took me a while to gather the coupons I wanted to use, but now I have a bunch of things I can put into food storage for later. I usually don't shop twice in a week, but I had my 3 kids with me last time so my shopping trip was in and out. My Saturday trip allowed me to shop by myself and get the things I wanted. (I love it when dad watches the kids so I can do my serious shopping - thanks Deril)!

Here's a basic run down of the deals I got.

Strawberries were $7.99 for the case. These were a special they were just running for Saturday. I plan to cut and freeze for later.

Tylenol (100 tablets) (reg $8.19), I paid $6.19

Dove Chocolates (3) (reg $4.59 each), I paid $2.09 each (mmm....these are a favorite at my house.. I might have to save some strawberries to dip in warm chocolate)

Sun Silk Shampoo & Conditioner (reg $3.39 each), I paid $1.39 each

Sun Silk mousse (reg $4.69), I paid $2.19

Energizer batteries (8 pk) (reg $5.99), I paid $4.50 I should have gotten more of these

Pepcid (30 tablets) (reg $8.99), I paid $6.99

Kraft Ranch Dressing (2) (reg $3-4), I paid $1.00 each They had these in a cart for a quick sell, the expiration date was getting close. Another favorite at our house - gotta dip everything.

Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo (2) (reg $3.99 each), I paid $2.99 each

Gerber baby juice (2) (reg $2.29 each), I paid $2.58 total for the two together

Dove deodorant (reg $3.19), I paid $1.19 I wish I had more of those coupons!

Scrubbing Bubbles shower (reg $4.35), I paid $2.35

Powerade Drinks (3) (reg $.69), I got them FREE

Solo plates (reg $2.50), I paid $.75 another item I wish I had more coupons for

Soft Scrub (reg $3.89), I paid $2.39

Dove Bar soap (reg $6.99), I paid $4.99

Scrubbing Bubbles (reg $3.79), I paid $1.79

Gerber Rice Cereal (reg $1.99 each), I paid $1.98 for both together

Ziploc Baggies (3) (reg $3.45 each), I paid $2.25 each

Brawny paper towels (reg $2.39 each), I paid $.64 each This was a great buy - too bad I could only get 3

Reynolds tinfoil (3) (reg $3.49 each), I paid $1.94 each

Malt O' Meal, blueberry Muffin tops (3) (reg $4.99 each), I paid $2.99 each

And the best part - was that when I went back I also paid for my rice that I picked up on my previous shopping trip! I feel better knowing I paid for that.

Hooray for triple coupon days!

I was a little nervous to go to Winegars today only because I couldn't get there until about 2:00 pm. I was worried that they would be out of everything and they weren't! I was so excited I had to blog about it right away.

So here's the rundown of what I got.

3 bottles of Nalley pickles (free)

3 Chex Mix

3 Fruit Snacks ($3.94 coupon was for Chex and fruit snacks - this was total for all 6)

6 Propel Waters ($3.96)

24 pk of Cottonelle TP ($13.24)

2 pks of Solo bowls ($1.50)

1 dozen donuts ($2.99)

Total $22.63+ tax = $25.95

When I got home I realized that I had 2, 20lb bags of rice that did not get scanned. I called the store and made arrangements to come back on my next trip to pay for them. The bagger had me leave them in the cart and in all the excitement of calculating all my coupons the checker missed the rice and I wasn't paying any attention until I got home.

All in all, I had a pretty good trip. At the end of the check stand as I was leaving they had these Kids Club magazines (Fitness, Food and Fun). I'm not sure who the sponsor is, but I picked one up for each of my 2 older kids. As we were driving home they were looking at them and I found coupons for Sara Lee, Kraft pudding and Capri Sun. Don't forget to pick one up on your way out.
