Simple Tastes - favor boxes and other thoughtful gifts

Aren't these just the cutest boxes? I entered another contest (yes, maybe one day, I'll win the lottery :) on Angilyn's FaceBook page and won these cute favor boxes. (Sorry it's a bit fuzzy, my camera isn't the best these days).

This is the full set of 8 favor boxes. These will make such cute gifts to set out around my Thanksgiving dinner table. I can't wait! Now, I just need to think of something fun and unique to put in them.

This is how the box looks when it's open. The box is about 2" x 2 " (approx). Hmmmm....maybe a fine chocolate or two would fit in this cute box.

Bountiful Baskets A to B weeks and Royalty Services Group

You may not have heard, but most sites for Bountiful Baskets are switching to the B week schedule to avoid problems with the upcoming holiday (weekends). If you'd like to order it will be open today until 10:00 pm - hurry spots are filling up fast!

Now that Albertson's has officially closed their doors in Utah (except for a few locations - here's a link to a friends blog for exact locations that are still open) the options for grocery shopping are limited. If you're like me, I always want a good deal.

Smith's sells Kroger brands. Did you know that you can automatically load coupons onto your Smith's card?

Here are a few links where you can load your Smith's card number into the system and fill it with coupons so when you go shopping and scan your card, it automatically gives you the coupon discount. No cutting, clipping or headache at the register. Easy Peasy!

Kohls deals, layaway and smart shopping

I have to admit, I am a Black Friday shopper - I love a good deal. It's interesting that in the last week, I've started to hear some predictions on how the Christmas season will play out. I found this article on CBS News Early show. The news article basically stated that if you see a good deal now, you may want to get it now because retailers aren't ordering a lot of inventory due to the recession. It's a pretty interesting read anyway.

Kents may be my new Albertsons

I don't know about your circumstances, but we've had the flu at our house. We were told by the doctor, it wasn't the piggy flu, but it was definately the flu (my guess it was the piggy flu - that's what's going around). Anyway, I seriously haven't been shopping in weeks. It hit us at the beginning of October and really took me down (thus - the lack of posts....sorry).

After I started feeling better, I wanted to catch Kents sale this week because of the General Mills cereal sale. I was pretty happy with what I got. Check it out.

Crafty Halloween Wreath

I basically have no decorating talent whatsoever. Those of you who know me, know this about me. Yes, it's pretty sad.....I know.

Anyway, last year I did manage to make a really fun Halloween wreath that I saw in a magazine. The best part about this wreath is that all those hot glue strings you get? - well the more this wreath has the better. BzzAgent Freebies...

I don't know about you, but I love to open the mailbox and find fun little goodies inside. Last week I opened it to find this:I've gotten many things from BzzAgent, but this will definately be one of my favorites. I got a full bottle of Aveeno Nourish + shampoo and conditioner. It also came with coupons, literature and samples.

Hey - Did you know.....?

Every month there are certain coupons that re-set, meaning that if you printed them, say in August sometime you could turn around and print them again on 9/1.

How to order Bountiful Baskets (co-op)

Bountiful Baskets is a rather new Co-op in the Utah area. So far there are sites between Brigham City and Bountiful and it seems to be growing every delivery date.

Deliveries are every 2 weeks right now. So this upcoming weekend (9/5) is a delivery date and then every 2 weeks from there.

Ordering is open the Tuesday prior to the delivery date. Usually there is a small window for ordering (Tuesday morning to Wednesday about 10 am). (If you're reading this today 9/1, today is the day you would order. I like to order early on Tuesdays because that usually secures a basket for me. If you order on Wednesday, there's a chance you may not get the site you want. There are a limited number of baskets at each site).

What do you get when you order?
You get a basket filled with 1/2 fruits and 1/2 veggies. There are also opportunities to purchase additional items such as a variety of breads, specialty fruit/veggie packs (Mexican, Italian, Island packs) and sometimes you can order cases of things, like cherries, apples, peaches etc... All of the extras mentioned above are additional purchases above the cost of your original fruit/veggie pack (you will see the prices as you order). If you go to the right hand side of my blog and scroll down towards the labels - look for Bountiful Baskets to see pictures of what I've received in the past.

How do I order?
1 - Click on this link to take you to the Bountiful Baskets online site.
2 - Scroll down to the middle of the page and click on Utah Bountiful Baskets
3 - Select the date (usually there is only one date to choose from - the date of delivery)
4 - Select your site (the drop down box will indicate sites and times - make a note)
5 - Proceed through the order (remember first time orders will have a one time additional charge of $3.00). You must answer yes or no to each option to complete your order.
6 - Click Add to Cart.
7 - Scroll back up to the top and click Submit
8 - This will take you to a summary of your order (ALWAYS CHECK THIS OVER TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING WHAT YOU EXPECT AND TO MAKE SURE THE LOCATION AND TIME ARE ALSO WHAT YOU'VE CHOSEN!!!)
9- Proceed through the checkout and print your summary to bring with you as proof of purchase.

What is expected of me?
Co-op's are purely volunteer run. Please plan to arrive an hour early to help set up baskets, distribute the produce between the baskets, break down boxes, haul them off and then distribute the produce to those who ordered.

What do I need to bring?
1 - Bring your own box, bag, laundry basket or something to take your produce with you. You'll want something sturdy and durable. The baskets used at the site are re-used each time and you can't take them with you.

2 - Know the weather: hats, gloves, drinking water, rain slicker, coats and jackets will be handy while working.

Everything that's brought in needs to be taken away. Volunteers/Participants need to haul all the cardboard boxes away after distribution. Many local schools have recycle bins that will take this kind of stuff. The schools love it and really benefit when we can help.

You have between 20 and 30 minutes after pick up time to arrive and get your basket. If you do not show, that produce will be donated to the local fire department.

Family Fun Magazine - $4.78

I ordered this magazine a year ago and have absolutely loved it. I love it because not only is it fun to read, they have tons of fun ideas for kids crafts, gift ideas, cooking with kids etc.... It seems like they always have ideas for both young and older kids - which makes it nice to pick and choose activities that will work for your family.

Lookin' for a good cereal sale..... Kents this week!

First I paid $44.00 (give or take some change, they forgot to add 2 cereal coupons $4.00 ea, so I need to go back and get that fixed) and saved, $46.74.

So any of you that know me or have attended one my classes knows that we consume a lot of cereal at my house. Without coupons and sales, there would be no way I could afford to pay $3.00+ for a box of cereal that lasts about one meal (if everyone is having some). I was really greatful for my sister who called last night to tell me about the GM cereal sale at Kents this week. Four for $5 - wahoo!!!!! You need to pick up their ad (located at the customer service desk - in fact they have the cereal coupons already printed and cut for you) to get the deal. First of all $1.25 is a pretty good deal these days even with coupons. If you add coupons from (online, Smartsource or others that you may have it's even a better deal).


Here's what I got.

16 boxes of GM cereal - Yep, I paid $.75/box - ya can't beat that! Now' I don't feel bad sending some boxes to school for my daughters teacher (math project)

If I had paid $3.00 a box, I would have paid a minimum of $48 just in cereal.



2 cans Hunts Spaghetti sauce 2 cans Pam
1 loaf Grandma Sycamore bread

This weeks Bountiful Baskets delivery

I haven't posted a picture of my Bountiful Baskets in a while and decided that it was a good time to show you what you can get. They are definatley picking up speed, meaning that every site is full and they are adding more sites with more volunteers.

Here's what today's pickup came with:

1 celery

1 Romaine lettuce

8 pears

2 bunches of green onions

7 bananas

1 pkg blueberries

2 bunches of radishes

1 bunch of spinach

1 broccoli

1 container of grape tomatoes

1 container of strawberries

8 peaches

I also decided to try their Ciabatta bread this time. I heard someone raving over it a few weeks ago, so I had to try it. I've tried their honey wheat and their 9 grain and have been very pleased.

I love getting all this variety for much cheaper than I could buy it for at the store.

Now I need some suggestions on what to do with all this bread - any good ideas? I tried it today with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar and it was yummy!

Kings (an oldie, but a goodie) in Layton is moving to Driggs, ID

I don't frequent Kings very often. I run in there a couple of times a year because it seems to have some fun and unique things that I don't see at some of the other big retail stores.

I was sad to hear today that Kings is packing up and moving to Driggs, Idaho. I asked if they would be marking things down to sell prior to leaving and they really aren't. They do have an aisle where things are marked down 50% or more though.

The lady I spoke with also mentioned that they would probably be responsible for clearing their candy and clothes racks though (even though I did not see those items "marked down").

I tried to see if they would come down in price on some of their toys, but she said no. If Kings is a place you like to shop (it has that old musty smell and funny things that make me chuckle from time to time), you ought to stop by soon. They are packing and shipping things up to Driggs on 8/21 and will officially be gone by the end of the month (August).
