Hosting a class

I haven't blogged about hosting a class in a while, so I thought I'd take the opportunity.

I honestly save between 40 and 60% every time I go to the grocery store. I would love to show you how I do this.

I'm currently booking classes for June and July. If you'd like to pull a group together (co-workers, friends, family, neighbors, church groups, mom's groups, couples - whatever), I would love to teach you this. I'll come to you.

The one thing I absolutely hate about grocery shopping is taking my kids. I kind of got railroaded this week and guess what - I ended up at the store today with all three kids. Yes, I was that woman shooting daggers at my kids as they played hopscotch up and down the aisles.

Having said that - I hit the jackpot today! My jaw just about dropped to the floor when the Albertson's cashier told me how much I just saved. Here's what I got (you'll have to wait to see how much I saved.....)


Purchase #1

19 boxes of General Mills cereal

5 Betty Crocker cookie mixes

2 boxes of Bagelfuls

6 boxes of Betty Crocker fruit snacks

1 can of Pam (I should have purchased this in purchase #2 below)

3 artichokes

1 pkg of Chips Ahoy cookies

4 boxes of Fiber One toaster pastries

3 cups of mini Chips Ahoy cookies

1 8pk of Coke (it's in the next picture)

Because I had so many boxes of cereal and nothing else would fit in the cart, I paid for this and took it to my car and came back in for more. In total I paid $49.46 and saved $111.68. If you're familiar with this sale you'll know that for every $10 you spend on Kraft items, you save $4 at the register. I saved $32 plus all my coupons.

Purchase #2

6 boxes Orville Redenbacher popcorn

3, 4pks of Hunts pudding

10 Marie Callendars pot pies

As you can see, I made a few mistakes in the sales - that's another reason I don't like bringing my kids. I get easily distracted. My second purchase was $45.12 and I saved $63.39. I also earned $10 towards my next shopping trip. In total I spent $94.58 and saved $175.37. I walked out with a little spring in my step and a smile on my face.

I had a few extra coupons especially for the ConAgra sale. If you receive the Salt Lake papers, there was an insert for Smith's a few weeks back. These were manufacturer's coupons and a lot of them were on this weeks Albertson's sale. Also, if you happened to pick up the May edition of All You magazine from WalMart, there were a few coupons in there as well (it's not too late to get one from WalMart).

Pretty good deals at Albertson's this week

Because I've been couponing for such a long time - you get to a point that you don't need to go to every sale. Right now my food storage is pretty good and what I'm working on is just filling the holes. Trust me, I love the thrill of a good sale, but I don't always need the items that are on sale. So once you get to this point, don't worry if you don't hit all the sales. Just go for the things you need.

These are the deals I got at Albertson's last night.


6 boxes of Post Honey Bunches of Oats (different flavors)

*I made this my first purchase. You can buy either 5 or 6 boxes and get a $5.00 catalina (register coupon) back. I chose to buy 6 boxes because the coupon associated with it was for the purchase of 2 boxes). I paid $6.70 for these 6 boxes and got a $5.00 catalina back, which I applied to the rest of my purchases)*

I paid a total of $51.96 for my groceries. I saved $72.03. I paid about $1.29 per item (total items 35).

If you haven't already heard or read somewhere, Albertson's is no longer taking competitor's coupons. I'm very sad because of this, but am pleased to see more double coupon offers as well as discounts on gas purchases when I shop there. I guess these other benefits are still pretty good.

Cashing in on Quaker and Campbells

I tried to get to the Albertson's sale earlier, but as things would have it - I was shopping this sale in it's last hours. I was pretty pleased with with I got though. Check it out.I took two shots so you could see the things I got a little closer.

I paid $89.17 and saved $90.17. Not bad for a last minute shopper. The items in red are the only things I did not have coupons for.

A new show and tell

Aubrey took advantage of this weeks Albertson's sale. She really cashed in.....take a look.

Okay - so I missed the first and second day of Albertson's great sale. Trust me I'm dying to go.

Some New Year's Resolutions

It seems like I really didn't post much about shopping and saving throughout the month of December. I hardly remember the month - it was such a blur. Trying to shop with little ones and working around school, pre-school and nap times was definately challenging. I don't even think I wrote a serious grocery shopping list. I just ran to the store for the perishables. It's time to get back on track!

I have to say this because I was really impressed and somewhat surprised this month. Like I stated above, I didn't really go grocery shopping other than for the essentials. I found myself in one day needing more flour, sweetened condensed milk, pie filling, semi-sweet chocolate chips and vanilla. Guess where I found all these things? Yep - in my own pantry.

Coupon shopping really helps and it certainly saved me a ton this month!!! I didn't have to go grocery shopping, it has allowed me to stock up on the items my family uses most and best of all it saves me $$$$ (lots of it).

Within the next few weeks, many of us will get that awful white envelope from our credit card companies. Why not learn to save some money everytime you grocery shop?

Not every grocery trip is worthy of a picture

I'm sure that as you go along you will have these kinds of shopping trips. I went to the store yesterday and it was just one of those trips. You know....the one's where everything you need is NOT on sale. I had one of those trips. I'm just here to say that not all sales are equal. I was a little discouraged yesterday. I spent $102.13 and only saved $53.14. Not one of my best trips to the store - I would have to say. But now that I have a grundle of candy, the chicken, carrots, noodles and celery for the soup I need to make for the trunk or treat, I've put all that behind me. I also picked up some new plastic bowls (for the kids - to match the ones I already have), sunflower seeds (for hubby), bread (just to have a couple of extra loaves)....etc.... I chose to go to Albertson's again and the up side to this trip was that I did earn another 5% off a future grocery trip (I have to use both of mine before the end of November). Let's hope that this upcoming sale at Albertson's (the one the mgr of my local Albertsons' said would be really, really good) is really worth it! I'm ready to cash in.

I just wanted to check in and let you know that even though I coupon well - this was not one of my shining moments and it happens to all of us. :(

2 trips to Smith's this week

I actually went to Smith's twice this week. I usually don't do this, but I really wanted the free Malt-o-Meal cereal so I went on Wednesday (first day of the sale). I don't know why I didn't take a picture of this shopping trip, but I didn't. I was floored though at the huge savings I had. I bought the cereal (4 bags - FREE), granola bars (4 boxes), coke, grapes, cake mix (3), straws, a sandwich, some california rolls (a new favorite) and some bread (2 loaves). In total I purchased 22 items. My grand total was $33.79 and my savings was $29.50. I really spent about $1.54 per item.

So here's a picture of my second shopping trip.

4 bags of MOM cereal
8 boxes of pop tarts
5 boxes of Crest toothpaste
8 boxes of granola bars
4 boxes of butter
3 boxes of Electrasol (Finish)
2 boxes of Yoplait drinkable yogurts

and of course another box of California rolls.

I spent $42.74 on 36 items, making each item about $1.19 a piece. I saved a total of $55.93.

Not bad for couple of days work!
