I have to admit that I'm not a very good summer blogger. It seems like I haven't been home long enough to do anything with this blog in months.

So this blog is dedicated to Swagbucks! If you haven't used Swagbucks you ought to try. It's basically a search engine where you earn points that you can redeem for just about anything (gift cards, kids stuff, collector stuff, you name it - they probably have it).

I've been using them for a little over a year now and as you can see by the widget above, I've got a few points with them.

* Coupons - yes, when you print coupons from their site and then use them at the store you will get points added to your total.

Newspapers and Extreme Couponing the Grocery Smart Way!

Have any of you been watching Extreme Couponing on TLC? It is a bit extreme, but I love to watch to see what the end result will be. Farm Fresh Local Produce - CSA's

I'm a news watcher and my husband hates it. I can't help it, if I have a choice I'm always watching the news (more local than national). Anyway, yesterday when I woke up I turned on the tv to my favorite morning news (Channel 2 - gotta love Mary, Ron, Debbie and Casey)!!!

They did a segment on CSA's - Community Supported Agriculture. If you haven't been a part of a co-op it's very similar. Basically a CSA is a farm in or near your local community. You pre-pay for your portion of produce and then you receive a weekly share of crops for the growing season. This is a great way to "buy local" and support your community.

Black Island Farms happened to be featured on the morning show yesterday. I happen to live near this farm and have frequented it through Halloween adventures, buying produce and going on field trips there. By participating in this CSA you get opportunities to help work a field, educational seminars, concerts and magic acts. You even get up to 4 free passes to their Harvest Festival (maze, pumpkins, bounce houses, cow train, pig races, giant hay slides, animals etc...).

If you like fresh produce, supporting your local community and fringe benefits I would certainly check out the link above. They have a lot of drop offs and if you can get a group of 15 or more together, they would create other drop off spots.

I know there are other local CSA's out there as well. You can Google one that may be in your area.

I can't wait for that fresh local corn!!! Honestly - one of my favorite things to eat!

Miya Design - another favorite

So I live in this cute little community and I drive past Miya Design at least once, probably two or three times a day. This cute little store sits near a busy corner and is down the street from my kids school. I decided to go in there the other day and just fell in love with all the cute things they have to offer.

I was there looking for a birthday gift for my mom. The store has such a homey feel to it. It reminds me of a little old pioneer home with a swanky, beautiful interior. They have done such a nice job of decorating with the home interiors that they sell.

It was so funny because my son (3 yrs old) went right for the display of bubble gum. They had these beautiful glass jars filled with orange and green gumballs. How clever is that? And thankfully they had some extra's that weren't on display and offered him one. That was really very sweet.

If you're looking to update a room, they have a lot to offer in the way of furniture and interior design. Oh, what I wouldn't give to have someone with that kind of expertise come to my house and tell me what I need to do with it!!!

The clothes are absolutely beautiful, very chic and trendy. If you're looking for a specific size or color they are even willing to try and order the item you want. Check their facebook page for more deals on clothes.

And let's not forget the great jewelry to choose from. They have rings, bracelets and necklaces of every kind. The best part of the jewelry is that most of it was priced between $10 and $15.

Kraft Philadelphia Cooking Creme

(The spacing is all wrong and I can't seem to fix it - I apologize for the crazy blog tonight). As a Kraft First Taste participant, I got to try the new Philadelphia Cooking Creme for free. I wasn't sure which one to try. They have Italian Cheese and Herb, Original, Savory Garlic, and the Santa Fe Blend. I decided on the Santa Fe Blend thinking it would go great in my recipe for chicken or beef enchiladas. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it home to find that there were recipe suggestions on the package itself. I also noticed that there were more recipes on the Kraft website. I was even more pleased after my family gobbled up the chicken enchilada's that were made with this new cooking creme. I loved the fact that it was so easy to use. I will definitely be buying more of these for other recipes I want to try. Here's my hodge podge recipe if you'd like. Stacy's Chicken Enchilada's 1 lb chicken/beef (I prefer canned chicken because it's easy to open and use - I'm all about saving time and my kids don't like big chunks of meat) 1 pkg (10) flour tortilla's 1 28 oz can enchilada sauce 1 10 oz tub of Kraft Santa Fe Blend Cooking Creme 1 pkg instant spanish rice 1 small can green chili's Cheese Mix the chicken, cooking creme, pre-cooked spanish rice and green chili's in a bowl. Spray a 13x9 casserole dish with Pam or another cook spray. Pour the enchilada sauce into a large bowl. Take 1 tortilla at a time and dip it in the enchilada sauce (I usually just do one side - this is the messy part). With that same tortilla, spoon about 1/4 cup (eyeball it) of the mixture in a line from the top to the bottom of the tortilla. I try to make my line just off center - it makes it easier to roll the tortilla. Then roll up the tortilla and set it in the casserole dish. Continue doing this until all 10 tortillas have been filled and put in the casserole dish. Take the remaining enchilada sauce and pour it over the tortillas in the dish. Sprinkle with your favorite cheese (some people like a lot, some don't - add whatever you like). Cover your pan with tin foil and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Take the foil off and bake for another 5 minutes until the cheese has completely melted. I'm not gourmet cook, but it tastes good and my family will eat it and that's all that matters to me. My next purchase will be the Savory Garlic - I have a great fettuccine recipe that I'd like to try that one with. If it turns out great - I'll post that recipe too. I hope you get a chance to try this new cooking creme. If you try it and come up with a great recipe, I'd love to get it from you.

Mio - have you tasted it yet?

I'm dedicating the next few blogs to some things I've recently tried and have really liked.

The first is a new product called Mio. I signed up a few weeks ago to get a free sample. It comes in this handy little convenient bottle that is easy to take with you if you need. I received the Fruit Punch flavor.

My kids each got a cup of water and we squirted a small amount in each cup. My kids inhaled it and asked for more. I tasted it and couldn't believe the flavor punch! For just a small squirt it really tasted delicious. The sample also came with a $1.00 coupon. I've now purchased the Peach Mango and the Strawberry Watermelon and love them all!

We're not big punch drinkers here at my house, but my kids beg for this. I think it's great that they are drinking more water too. You can also add this to any clear soda and it tastes great - kind of like the flavored drinks you can get at a restaurant.

The best part is that in the Sunday paper you just got, there was a $1.00 coupon for Mio (SS 3/27). So if you haven't tried Mio - here's a pretty good deal. One bottle costs about $3.50. If you live in Utah, the Target ad also had a great buy. You get a 24 pk of Arrowhead water when you purchase 2 Mio Drink Enhancers.

Mio comes in Fruit Punch, Strawberry Watermelon, Berry Pomegranate, Peach Mango, Sweet Tea and Peach Tea. Each bottle has 24 servings - a pretty good and tasty buy if you ask me!

Gardening, Gardening, Gardening - gotta love Spring

Even though I woke up to a small amount of snow this morning, my crocus, daffodils and tulips are poking out so that means Spring is on it's way!!! I couldn't be more thrilled!!!

I have to admit, my life after quitting my full time job about 4 1/2 years ago has changed dramatically. I've learned to appreciate where every dollar goes just a little more.

One of my favorite things to do is garden. Let me caution you though, I'm still a novice. Two years ago, my dear husband built me some square foot gardens (raised bed gardens) and they have been absolutely wonderful.

We brought all the soil in so there are no weeds. I will get a few weeds throughout the year because we have secondary water and weed seeds sometimes come through that, but they are so easy to take care of because the soil is loose and easy to grow in.

Living in Northern Utah, I can plant peas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, radishes and potatoes. I'm sure there are others, but as stated above, I'm still a novice. So far I have my peas, carrots and broccoli in and I have my potatoes ready to go in the ground in the next day or so. I'm not planting all of these things in my garden, but at least I've gotten started. The last couple of years I've been late getting my veggies in and they haven't done as well as I had hoped.

This year I brought in more compost to give my gardens a boost. I'm really crossing my fingers that this year will be better than last - I guess that's the hope for every year :0)

My family uses a lot of produce that we get from the Bountiful Baskets co-op. I always have stems, peels, rinds and fruits and veggies that have gone bad before we could get to it. Rather than throwing it away, I try to add it to my compost pile.

Last Spring, I picked up a composter. Now it's not pretty and it was just a $50 investment from Sam's club. I wish I had something a little fancier that I could turn by hand, but this is the box I ended up with. I'm really hoping to get some good compost out of it this year. This will be nice to add to my gardens as well.

Planting a garden can really help your pocket book in the long run. Not only that, but you can make planting a garden a family event. It's something you can take pride in and show your kids how a seed can be so small, yet produce something wonderful to eat. There's nothing better than to prepare a meal using fruits and veggies that you've pulled out of your garden.

My Get Together - Yoplait Yogurt

I've posted about My Get Together before. Recently, I got a chance to host a Yoplait Yogurt party. It was so fun. As many of you know I love to teach people about couponing and I tied one of my last classes into my Yoplait Yogurt party. Unfortunatley, I didn't get any pictures because I was busy teaching the class. I brought my daughter along to help. It was fun to stop by the store prior to the class and pick out all the different flavors. I was actually quite amazed at the variety of flavors. We bought 30 cups (regular, lite and whipped varieties).

I had about 20-25 people in my coupon class and I wanted the yogurt to be a surprise for my guests at the end of the class. My daughter wheeled in a cart full of all the yogurts and everyone was very pleasantly surprised. It gave me a good chance to talk about My Get Together parties and the fun things that were sent. I even got this fun scrapbooking book by Nancy O'Dell.

I was really excited to do this party. Not only was it fun, but my family already loves Yoplait Yogurt. It tastes great and it's a great source of calcium. It's also a quick and easy go to snack for my kids in between school, sporting activities and just because.

Here's a few recipes that I got in my party box. I haven't tried them yet, but they look YUMMY!

Southwest Taco Dip

2lb container of Yoplait All natural fat free plain yogurt

1 pkg Old El Paso taco seasoning mix

1/4 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise or salad dressing

1/4 c fresh cilantro

1 green onion

1 tomato

Serve with pita chips, tortilla chips or fresh veggies

Raspberry-Lemon Fruit Dip

8 oz. container raspberry reduced-fat cream cheese spread

1/2 cup marshmallow creme

6 oz. container Yoplait Original Lemon Burst yogurt

Serve with assorted fresh fruit pieces or berries

Swagbucks partners with coupons - what a great marriage!

If you aren't familiar with Swagbucks and you like to earn free stuff - stay tuned!

I've posted about this before, but now they've added an even new feature that I'm sooo excited about.

Swagbucks is like a search engine, but the more you search the more points you earn. You can then go to the Swagbucks website and cash these points in for all kinds of things (my favorites are the gift cards, but there's a lot of variety).

So they just added a place where you can print coupons. The key is to print them (you can print 2 per computer) and use them. Once they have been redeemed at your local store you get 10 points for each redeemed coupon. It does say in the fine print that it will take 8-12 weeks to show up in your banks. This doesn't bother me since I'm a regular coupon user.

Honestly - I don't see a reason under the sun why you wouldn't join now, earn points for surfing and if you're a regular couponer like me - earn some additional points for things you already do!

So what are you waiting for???? It's free stuff.....don't we all like free stuff????

I've really neglected the blog lately. I never thought a house, a husband and three kids could really stretch me that far, but it has - so please forgive me :0)

I was really excited today when I walked out of Smith's having paid less than what I saved. Today is the last day of the sale and I was really hoping that they would still have cereal left. I was pleasantly surprised and just about cleared the remaining boxes from their end cap.

Yep - that's 32 boxes of Rice and Corn Chex and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My husband's favorite cereal is Rice Chex and when you can get it for $0.99 a box - it's worth stocking up on. This seems to be the only time of year when it goes on sale too. I hope in the coming weeks there will be more Chex cereal sales and more coupons in the newspaper. I'll buy even more to keep my husband supplied throughout the year - he's a big cereal eater and could finish 1 box in 2 to 3 days.

I also bought 2 pkts of brown gravy, 1 Symphony bar (as a thank you for a friend), 1 gallon of oj and 3 Christmas calendars. Now I need to tuck those away so they don't get opened and eaten before Dec. 1.

I spent a total of $49.70 and saved $68.11, a savings of 59%. Pretty Sweeet if you ask me!

I've also heard that the sale starting tomorrow at Smiths is a pretty good one. Check here for all the 4 and 5 star deals.

I may not remember too much about that class, but the one thing that has always stuck with me is that $19.99 is the magic sales price. I just got some GREAT news! I can now sell the Salt Lake newspapers for $19.99 a year!!! The price dropped 50%.

I thought $39.00 was a good price (that's what I paid over 2.5 years ago when I first started).

Also, you can now order up to 8 papers per household (4 Tribs and 4 D News). Can you even imagine the savings in your pocket? This boils down to $.38 per paper ~ I have honestly never seen this good of a deal on newspapers.

Mrs. Fields Cookie Tours

I originally saw this posted on Freebies2Deals the other day and decided to book a tour. We went today (in the pouring rain). My kids are in year round school and we are in our first break of the year and looking for some fun and inexpensive things to do. The tour was a quick 30 minute tour. It was the perfect time for my kids (ages 8, 5 and 3 next week). We had to wear a hairnet and closed toe shoes (no flip flops or open toed sandals). (If you have really young kids who would not do well with a hairnet, this may not be good for them).

We watched a quick 3 minute movie before and then walked through the plant. I guess their busiest time is during the 4th quarter of the year. Victor, our tour guide kept suggesting that we come again during that time of the year when the factory is really busy.

After the tour was over we were greeted in their cookie shop with a tray full of cookies and brownies to sample. Can I just tell you that the smell wafting through that factory was wonderful! If you'd like to schedule your own tour check out this link.

Grocery Tip ~ As we all know, Labor Day is approaching. It's sorta the end of the summer picnics, campouts and BBQ's. Sooooo, what better time than NOW to do a little inventory on your summer supplies. What I mean by this is that during the summer months you will find your condiments, grilling supplies and paper products at their lowest prices. You still have about a month to cash in on some the the great sales. Check your pantry/food storage for ketchup, mustard, pickles, relish, paper plates, napkins, plasticware, charcoal etc... Watch the sales over the next few weeks and stock up on these kinds of products. These items won't stop going on sale, but summer is the best time to get these items at their lowest prices.

If you haven't already heard - Smith's is doing another double coupon event. It will run from 7/28 (6:00 am) to 7/31 (midnight). If you haven't participated in their double coupon days, you'll certainly want to. You are maximizing your coupon buying power and getting sooo much more for less $$.

So here's how it will work: Any coupon you bring in that is less than $1.00 will have its value brought up to $1.00.

So a coupon worth $.10 = $1.00

$.25 = $1.00

$.55 = $1.00

$.75 = $1.00

The shopping lists have not come out yet so matchups are still a bit of a mystery. In the meantime, one of my favorite things to do is use the Grocery Smarts alphabetical list of coupons and do a quick review of the things I need to fill in my pantry and clip those coupons. This list is very handy when stores do this kind of sale.

I'm dedicating today's blog to "stuff." It's a bunch of odds and ends, things I've liked and deals to be had.

1 - The first place I'm going to send you is to the Instant Win Games on Hip2Save's blog. I'm surprised at how many Instant Win games are out right now. So if you like this kind of stuff - give it a whirl.

2 - HouseParty - Have you heard of this site? It's so fun. You go to the website, sign up, apply to host a party and when you're selected you host the party, invite friends, neighbors, family - whomever. A few weeks before, HouseParty will send you a box full of goodies, samples, handouts, giveaways and coupons. Now you just need to send the invites and have the party revolving around the items you got. Prior to your party, the website has a lot of great ideas and support to help you along the way. 3 - Bountiful Baskets Co-op - If you haven't tried out a co-op you ought to. Where else can you get between 30 and 40lbs of fruits and veggies for $15? Usually you get about 6 or 7 varieties of fruits and veggies. Check out these previous links for more details. Currently ordering takes place on Monday nights starting at 8:00 pm and goes through Tuesday at midnight, with pickup the following Saturday morning.

4 - SwagBucks - Okay, we all use one search engine or another. Take advantage of using Swagbucks - especially on Fridays (the odds of winning bigger swagbucks and more often happen on Fridays). When you use this search engine to find things you start accumulating points that can be turned into prizes. Sign up today and start getting points towards great prizes!

5 - For Your Kitchen - I stumbled into this cute little Kitchen store a couple of months ago. It's family owned and run and they have some great stuff there. I signed my kids up for a kids class and I recently took a breadmaking class from them as well. Plus - they are an authorized Bosch store. Let me tell you - after taking that breadmaking class, it makes me wish I had a Bosch. Okay ~ let's face it, Target has some really cool things (most of the time). I like Target stuff a lot, but I've always thought it was a little expensive. About a year ago (maybe longer), I started hearing the buzz about Target Coupons and that you could use a Target Coupon with a manufacturer coupon. Hmmmm.....that sounds like a pretty good deal if you ask me. There's some real savings to be had when you combine the two. Kids Cooking Classes - For Your Kitchen

Once a month they offer a kids cooking class (usually on a Saturday afternoon). They highlight different cuisines. My kids did Hawaiian cooking yesterday. The class ran about 2 hours, so it gave me some great shopping time without the kids :) They made Teriyaki meatballs with rice, a Macadamia Pie and an Hawaiian Donut. My kids enjoyed the class - especially eating what they made. Other kids classes that are coming up are: Italian, Korean and Greek.

So this is what I got in the mail today. I don't know what it is, but I love to get stuff in the mail!!! I guess it's the up side to getting bills :(

Here's what I got today. Granted this isn't a huge haul, but it's always fun to see what kinds of things you can get. I think the best part is actually getting the good coupons that go with the samples.

Today brought me:

A trial size, Pantene shampoo and conditioner, plus 4 coupons

A trial size, Dove deodrant/antiperspirant

A trial size, Lever bar of soap

A coupon for a free Butterfinger candy bar

So what do I do with all this stuff???? Well recently, I was trying to finish up putting 3 additional 72 hours kits together and some of this stuff would work great it one of those. It's also nice to be able to grab these trial size things for quick trips. I keep a container of this kind of stuff in my hall closet for those times when I need it.

As for the Butterfinger ~ hmmmm....I'm still deciding whether it's my treat or a treat for the prize bag I use when my kids have done extra chores around the house. Either way, all this stuff is fun and useful. I just wanted to share what it's like to get more samples and freebies in the mail than it is to get bills!

Not only did we jump into braces recently, but we also needed glasses for my daughter. We actually got a really good deal on her glasses at the place we got her original pair, but I saw today on Pinching Your Pennies that you can get a free pair of glasses from Target Optical.

I just saw this posted on Facebook. So if any of you live in these area's watch for the ad to come in your mail. They have it posted on Facebook, but I can't read it or enlarge it enough to read all of what's on it. Houseparty

Have you ever heard of Houseparty? Do you like to get together with friends, neighbors or family? This is a really fun website to join.

I joined a while ago, but never went in and signed up for a party. One night a few months ago, I was teaching a coupon class and the hostess told me all about Houseparty and how fun they were.

I went in and signed up and I'm hosting my first Houseparty in a couple of weeks. I was chosen to host an Underwriters Laboratory, Going Green Party.

I ended up getting 15 of each of the following items.

15 reusable totes, 15 empty UL logo spray bottles, 15 Environmentally-friendly cleaning cloths, 15 natural sponges and 15 funnels.
I have a group of girls between the ages of 10 and 11 that I work with in my church. I think this will be the perfect setting to teach the girls about what they can do to go green even at their age. I also plan to make a homemade cleaner that I got a recipe for through the Utah State Extension office website.

Right now Houseparty is currently taking applications for Gerber Generation, 2010 French Cocktail Hour, Hasbro Game Night and Breyers Summer to Remember. All you have to do is sign up through their website. They will let you know which party you get to host (sign up for multiple parties) and they do all the rest. They basically walk you through everything. They offer online invites, they send you the box of "stuff (coupons, giveaways, free things)" for your party, there's online chats that help you come up with fun ideas for hosting your party, handouts etc....

When my party is over, they will send me a survey that I need to fill out and I'm off to apply for more parties. I can't wait! It will be fun to have a variety of people over to enjoy my next great party!

We are BIG cereal eaters at my house and so when a deal like this comes around I jump on it!

This week at Smith's they are having a 5 for $5 Quaker Cereal Sale (Cap'N Crunch varieties as well as Quaker oatmeal varieties - see the Smith's ad for all the details).

Yesterday, you should have received your big packet of "junk mail." Hopefully you didn't throw it away. In the Associated Food Store ads (Reams, Macey's, Winegar's, Kents, Harmons, Fresh Market...just to name a few) there's a manufacturer's coupon for $3.00 off the purchase of 5 Quaker products.

Luckily I had 5 of these ads (I guess sometimes it helps to live so close to so many AF stores). I took my 5 coupons to Smith's this morning and this is what I got.

Now that's what I call a good deal :)

Have you heard about Swagbucks? I've seen it popping up on people's blogs for the last couple of weeks and decided to jump in and try it out. Seriously, I joined about 5 days ago. It's basically a search engine. I loaded their toolbar and now when I search I use it rather than some of the other ones I was using.

Why??? you ask.... Well, Swagbucks allows you to earn swagbucks that you can spend in the swagstore. In the few days that I've been with them, I've already earned 77 swagbucks.

Oh, and on Fridays, they like to double the swagbucks you get - just another fun incentive to do more searching on Fridays!~ There's a lot of ways to earn swagbucks besides just searching, but you can read up on that on their site.

If you're looking for some free stuff (and when I say stuff, I mean they have a lot of variety) why not use Swagbucks to to earn it?

Easter Egg Dyeing - very kid friendly

In the Family Fun magazine this month, there was a tip for dyeing Easter Eggs. I tried to find a link to the article on their site, but couldn't. So here's my feeble attempt to re-create.

It seems like every year - especially at our house someone drops and cracks an Easter egg while dyeing it.

This simple little trick really saved the day. I wish I had thought of it first!

Use whisks to help those little ones who want to help so desperately, but seem to fumble with getting the eggs in and out of the colored water.

Just slide your hard boiled egg in between the wires and set it in your cup. It's easy to drop it in and pull it out!

It's been a while since I've posted one of my shopping trips. I went to Smith's today and picked up some pretty good deals.

I spent a total of $56.70 and saved $40.97 ~ WOOT, WOOT!!!

Here's what I got:

8 boxes of Honeycomb - my kids favorite ($1.00 each)

6 boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats - my husband's favorite ($1.00 each)

4 bags Lays potato chips ($.99 each, SS 3/14)

1 lb Kroger butter (I had a Kroger coupon for $.55 off, paid $1.12)

2 doz Kroger eggs ($.99 each, could have gotten them cheaper, but it's one stop shopping this week)

3 bags of Hershey's Easter Candy (SS 3/14)

1 bag of hashbrowns

1 box of hashbrown patties

1 box of Chicken in a Bisket crackers

1 bottle of Tide (I had a coupon from Smith's for $1.00 off, paid $4.88)

1 pkg of Chipmates cookies (I had a coupon from Smiths, can't remember what it was)

2 Wishbone salad dressings (RP 3/28, $.75 each)

1 pkg Mento's gum (I had a coupon from Smiths - can't remember what it was either)

4 Easter basket toys (they were already on clearance)

Not bad for stocking up! The Post cereal sale is pretty good, buy 4 items and get $4 back at the register. Use the coupons from SS 2/28 and SS 3/14, it makes the boxes of cereal each $1.00. Also, if you are buying the Cocoa or Fruity pebbles, there's a catalina offer at Smiths. Buy 4 boxes and get a $3.00 catalina (register coupon) back. You can do several of these transactions, but don't use you cereal catalina's to turn around and pay for any of your Post cereal. If you do this you won't get another catalina. Use your catalina's to pay for the rest of your groceries!

By the time I got to the store this morning all the Pebbles were gone :( Don't forget you can ask for a raincheck.

Yoplait Greek Yogurt

One of my most favorite things to do is to get coupons to try new products. I linked up with a new blog the other day that sent me some coupons for Yoplait's new Greek Yogurt.

I bought the Strawberry and the Honey Vanilla (it also comes in Blueberry and Plain). I opened my Honey Vanilla yesterday and it was so good ~ haven't tried the Strawberry yet. I love to sprinkle a little bit of crunchy granola on top, Yum!

I really appreciated the fact that this yogurt was packed with twice the amount of protein as other brands of yogurt on the market and it has 0% fat. It tasted smooth and creamy. I'll be buying this on a regular basis. I definitely recommend giving this new yogurt a try.

So, I was reading Surviving Recession 101 and she basically summed up the Kmart deal. Check out her blog for all the details. I can't wait to have doubles back in Utah. Even though our Kmarts don't have a big "grocery" section, this is a great time to stock up on cleaning, hair care, soaps, razors, detergent and paper products. One thing you may not think of is coupons for Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. We'll just have to see what's out there when the doubles start.

Great Kmart coupon - get it while it's HOT!

I don't shop at Kmart very often, but I live close to one and enjoy stopping in from time to time. This is the pretty good coupon for Kmart. Click on this link and print the coupon located in the upper right corner near the blue light. The coupon is good from 3/15/10 to 5/22/10.

For any of you that have been couponing, you'll know that double coupon opportunities don't happen often in Utah. Last year Kmart did double coupons a couple of times, but it wasn't consistent and not in every Utah store. Rumor has it, that next month Kmart may offer double coupon days again. This coupon would be very nice to have when that happens.

So, if a shopping trip to Kmart is in your future - take advantage of this great coupon!

Wow! March has been a busy month for Grocery Smarts classes. I think people are realizing that saving is truly a necessity and not a luxury! I don't know about you, but I've certainly spent a lot of time wallowing in pain over the loss of Albertsons. I think I've found another great place to get a lot of deals. I've enjoyed shopping at Kents over the years, but I have to say they really do a spectacular Early Bird sale. If you haven't shopped one yet, it's well worth checking out. If you've noticed it's been a while since I've blogged. There's nothing like having sick kids and being sick yourself. I think we're on the mend so I'll be keeping up better :0)

In my downtime, I've watched many blog about the great Smith's Mega Sale. So last night I spent some time clipping and organizing my coupons. I was truly thrilled to have a handful by the time I was done. Now that Albertsons is gone, it's been a long time since I've been able to do this.

Here's what I got:

4 boxes of Capri Sun

6, 8oz bags Kraft cheese (I put these in the freezer for later)

8 cans Hormel chili

2 bags of Pepperidge Farms Goldfish

4 Sobe Waters

2, 1/2 gallon OJ

2 boxes of Nature Valley granola bars

4 boxes of Nabisco crackers (2 Ritz, 2 Wheat Thins)

10 Hershey candy bars

4 Toaster Strudels

5 Krusteaz cookie mixes

2 Nestle refridgerator cookies (I love to freeze these)

3 pkgs of Solo Bowls

5 boxes of Finish (Electrasol) dishwasher tablets (I prefer the tablets over the gel packs. If I only do one dishwasher cycle per day - this will last me at least 3 months!)

I handed the checker my Smith's Grocery Card at the end and noticed prior to scanning it, my total was $199.xx (YIKES)! After scanning it, the price dropped to $122.xx (still a little scary) and after all the coupons were scanned my grand total came to $77.25. This is a 62% savings (according to my receipt). I'm pretty stoked.

Most of what I bought today will go into my storage rotation. I have to say it's been a long time since I was able to stock up on some of the items I got today. I live for these kinds of sales!

It's not too late to take advantage of this great sale. It will run one more week. Hope you can get some great savings as well :0)

Wild Wednesdays @ RC Willey (Disney Pixar's UP)

Have you heard about Wild Wednesdays at RC Willey? I signed up for their emails a while ago and this is how I found out about the sales.

During the holidays when there were a lot of new movie releases, RC Willey would pick a movie and sell it for really cheap. They also have a lot of other fun Wild Wednesday deals.

Old Navy Clearance (75% off)

Get ready for some good deals! All stores are putting their already clearanced items (currently at 50% off ) down to 75% off. The sale goes from 1/15 to 1/18. Stores are open from 9 am to 9 pm.

Don't forget to pick up your coupons before you go. Click on this link to take you to their online coupon site. The really good coupons have already been snatched up, but here's what I was able to find.

If you take the green headband off of the girl wearing it and move it to the girl on the right (purple pants) it pulls up a coupon for 10% off an in store purchase.

Also move the yoga mat from the girl on the far left to the girl in the pink jacket and get 15% off womens yoga pants.

It seems like these coupons move around a bit, so if these might be a little different when you look.

If you click on all the girls shoes the coupon for $50 off of $100 comes up, but they were all gone.

Confession Time:

I must admit that I've really had a hard time setting some New Year's Resolutions. For some reason, the motivation is just missing for me. There are at least 100 things that I know I should be working on, but can't bring myself to commit.

One of my good friends (Tonya ~ thank you) sent me this link today. I'd never seen this before and I think this may be that little incentive I need to keep track of my grocery spending habits. I know that I always come out ahead when I use coupons, I've just never put it down where I can visually see it.

Check out The Coupon Project Blog. This wonderful mom has come up with an Excel Spreadsheet that tracks your grocery spending and savings.

Confession #2:

I am a total failure when it comes to balancing the checkbook/debit card/bank account!

Even though I am totally excited about this new spreadsheet and I'm committing to it right now - I just hope I can remember to do all my data entry. This will truly show me how much my savings at the end of the year will be.

You heard it right here, right now... I am going to maintain this spreadsheet in 2010 so I can see for myself and show my coupon classes the true savings that coupons bring!

Temple Portrait Classes

These are so incredibly beautiful, I had to share. I recently made one to give as a gift (sure hope the receiver likes it ;0).

A company by the name of Poppy Seed Projects has started up and they offer classes on these gorgeous temple pictures.

You've probably seen similar pictures like this at Costco running over $200. Wouldn't it be nice to have and make one for yourself that would be affordable (like $47 + tax affordable????)?

Honestly, this took a couple of hours. I had all the supplies I needed, it was done step by step and I did it all (and I'm not a really crafty person - if I can do it, so can you!). The step that took the longest was waiting for the paint to dry (LOL!) It was certainly fun to visit with friends as I put this together. It really turned out beautiful (I did the Manti temple). This project was done in my ward - but not as an enrichment or Super Saturday. One person wanted one and it snowballed from there. I hope this is something you'd like to do too. Renee was a wonderful (and very funny) teacher.

Christmas indulgences.....

Okay - who can diet this time of year? I've tried before and have decided that this time of year comes with too many temptations. I have found for myself that resistance is futile.

I hope you don't mind if I share a few of my favorites and a few that I'd really like to try.

I love Caramel Pull Aparts - these were always made for special occassions and Christmas was one of them. Rhodes has a great YouTube channel where you can watch how they put together all their delicious recipes. Here's one way to make caramel pull aparts. Here's another version (the one I typically use) that was on Good Things Utah this morning.

Breakfast Casserole

I don't really have a recipe for this - I just use what sounds good. I start with a hashbrown and egg mixture. I usually add a small bottle of salsa, green chiles, mushrooms, bacon and sausage. I dump all of this in a crock pot (you can also put this in a 9x13 pan and cook in the oven. When I use the crockpot it will cook in 1-2 hours on high or 3-4 hours on low.

Homemade Caramels

3 C whipping cream

1/2 c sweetened condensed milk

2 c light corn syrup

2 c sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

In a double boiler scald whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk over low heat.

In a heavy, 4 qt pan bring corn syrup, sugar, and salt to a boil, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. As mixture begins to turn a light golden color, add scalded whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk, 1 tablespoon at a time until all has been added, stirring constantly after each addition.

Attach candy thermometer to pan and cook, stirring constantly over medium heat until thermometer reaches 232 degrees F. Immediately remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Pour into lightly greased 9x13 pan. Cool in refrigerator until firm enough to cut into squares of desired size.

Note: Caramel becomes extremely hot. Handle with care and keep out of reach of children.

Emerald Dry Roasted Peanuts & Hershey candy bars - Smiths

Smiths has their Emerald Dry Roasted peanuts (some were lightly salted as well) on sale for $.50 (YES - $.50 for a 16 oz plastic bottle). I picked some us yesterday even though the sale started today. You should be able to find them near the sale items for the week. These would make great gifts or even to put down in your food storage. The bottles I bought were good through May of 2011!~

They are on sale for $1.50 a bottle, but each (0r most) of the bottles have a $1.00 coupon on top (make sure to grab those bottles) and it makes each bottle $.50. The ad mentioned "while supplies last" so I'd get there quick to grab this great deal!

***I also noticed that Smiths had their large Hershey's candy bars on sale 5 for $5 - another popular gift and treat this time of year.***
